Book Review - Scorch Trails

Title: The Scorch Trials Author: James Dashner Series: The Maze Runner (book 2) Publisher: Chicken House Ltd Release Date: 5 Jun. 2014 ISBN: 9781909489417 Synopsis Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escaping meant he would get his life back. But no one knew what sort of a life they were going back to... Burned and baked, the earth is a wasteland, its people driven mad by an infection known as the Flare. Instead of freedom, Thomas must face another trial. He must cross the Scorch to once again save himself and his friends. My Review I enjoyed Maze Runner overall but had a few reservations, but I was intrigued to find out more so started to read Scorch Trials. The Gladers are out of the maze, but it's not the comforting end they hoped for, instead the experiments continue, but on a much larger and more dangerous scale. Thomas and his friends must once more band together to try and overcome all the trials an...

Book Review - Hollow City

Title: Hollow City
Author: Ransom Riggs
Series: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Book 2)
Publisher: Quirk Books
ISBN: 978-1594747359

Synopsis
This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.

My Review
After finishing book 1 I had to move onto this one as soon as I could. The cliffhanger ending of the first made me desperate to know what happened to Jacob, Emma and the rest of the Peculiars. The front of the book is creepy in itself and I knew I was in for a real delight with just the same excitement and imagination of the first.
I actually found this book a bit slower in places and the photos didn't seem to fit in with the plot as well as in the first book but saying that I still found it very enjoyable and I read it quite quickly.
I loved the introduction of the new characters and the fact that it was in the wider world, seeing how the Peculiars fit in with the world outside of the home. There are tensions in the group and you really see their relationships grow and change especially without their leader to guide them. The dynamics in the group are tested but I love to see how they all interact with each other and find their places working together.
Although the book is slower throughout, it is definitely worth continuing with because the ending is EPIC, it ends on such an exciting action filled event that it makes you desperate to get the next book.
Overall not as good as the first but still highly enjoyable.
